Hafiz Muhammad Imran obtained his BSc in Mechanical Engineering from NUST, Pakistan, and an MSc in Smart Mechanics from the Université de Franche-Comté, France. His research experience includes experimental and numerical analysis of mechanical systems, focusing on bolted assemblies, rotor dynamics, and machine learning applications in nonlinear systems. He has worked on industrial collaborations with Alstom and Femto-ST, contributing to advancements in force measurement techniques and system optimization.
As part of the MetacMed project, Hafiz is working on "Metamaterial lenses for ultrasonic sub-wavelength imaging in water" at UNICAL, Italy. His research focuses on developing innovative metamaterial-based lenses for ultrasonic imaging beyond the diffraction limit in underwater applications. This project aims to improve imaging capabilities for biomedical, industrial, and underwater sensing technologies
Project objectives
- Design MM-based lenses and hyperlenses to be used in water at 2 MHz
- Develop FEM models to predict their behavior
- Use AM to build prototype optimized structures using trapping-air within the polymer or using MMs based GRIN structures
- Embed piezo-electricity in the lenses to tune their working bandwidth in real time and/or steer the ultrasonic beam and act as filters
- Test these lenses both in trough transmission and pulse-echo mode and verify the intended lateral resolution
